Posted 21 May – I had to reinstall another OS, and decided on Mint again. The patched module shows as cu, no rtl in front.

I would also check Network Connections to check that it’s showing up there too, in case it’s only recognised as a usb device. Unless the package says it supports Linux. From that page it does list linux drivers but it seems the driver is not part of the current kernel.
No time for that when there is evil afoot! They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I just blacklist the one I don’t want to load. What you’ll now need to be concerned about is if the adapter overheats, which will lead to poor performance. Yet I’m glad you hung in there, I’d had tossed the card if not under warranty or exchange period.
